Rosatom and TMH create a joint venture to develop hydrogen transportation
“Rusatom Overseas” (part of the Federal Atomic Energy Agency “Rosatom”) and “TMH-Energy Solutions” (a subsidiary of JSC “Transmashholding” chaired by Andrey Bokarev) have signed a memorandum of understanding and cooperation regarding the creation of a joint venture to join their efforts in the field of hydrogen transportation.
The parties intend to create and implement a refueling infrastructure and power generation facilities for hydrogen trains to be operated on the territory of Sakhalin region. In addition, it is planned to develop this concept and participate in the implementation of the hydrogen transport operation project in Moscow, where the new joint venture will act as an integrated supplier of energy generation facilities for transport as well as a developer and owner of filling stations. The two companies have set the goal of ensuring the localization in Russia of advanced hydrogen energy technologies for the transport sector and creating conditions for the professional control and management of the hydrogen transport infrastructure. They will also be in charge of organizing the marketing of hydrogen for the transport sector.
“This is a very important pilot project for the region, which is being developed by Russian Railways, Rosatom, Transmashholding OJSC and the Sakhalin regional government, and we will do our best to implement it successfully. We also see significant prospects for the development of hydrogen transportation in other regions of Russia”, – said Evgeny Pakermanov, the President of JSC Rusatom Overseas.
“Hydrogen is one of the foundations of the energy of the future”, – emphasized the General Director of Transmashholding, Kirill Lipa. – Its massive use will significantly reduce the environmental impact of transport, which is particularly important in urban areas and large industrial centers.
As a reminder:
On September 4, 2019, within the framework of the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, Russian Railways, the government of the Sakhalin region, Rosatom and TMH signed an agreement on cooperation and understanding on the project to organize a hydrogen railway network. Within the framework of this project it is planned to create a competence center for the development of specialized technological tools in the Sakhalin region and to extend them to all non-electrified railroad lines in Russia, especially in the Far East.
