TMH delivers its first passenger cars to Egypt.
The first production passenger cars manufactured by Transmashholding have just arrived by sea at the Egyptian port of Alexandria. These cars were manufactured as part of the contract worth a total of more than one billion euros signed with the Egyptian National Railways in 2018. The cars were handed over to the customer in a solemn ceremony.
The ceremony was attended by the President of Egyptian National Railways Arshaf Raslan, the Hungarian Ambassador to Egypt Péter Kveck, the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Egypt Georgiy Borisenko, the Consul General of the Russian Federation in Alexandria Rashid Sadikov, the Director of the Trade Mission of the Russian Federation to Egypt Nikolay Aslanov and the TMH delegation with the Vice President of the company Sergo Kurbanov.
The handover of the first batch of rolling stock to the customer is an important step in the completion of this largest contract in the history of Egyptian National Railways, which calls for the delivery of 1,300 units of railway equipment. The contract was signed as part of a comprehensive project to modernise the railway infrastructure in Egypt to improve its efficiency, comfort and safety.
The project is financed by the export-import banks of Hungary and Russia. The cars are manufactured in Russia (by Tver Carriage Works) and Hungary (by Dunakeszi Járműjavító). The project has been actively supported by the specialized authorities of Egypt and Hungary, as well as by the Government of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
“For the first time in Russia we are carrying out the contract for the manufacture and delivery of passenger equipment for 1435 mm tracks to a foreign country. By the end of 2020, the Republic of Egypt will still receive several batches of passenger cars from TMH. I am convinced that this joint project will become another important step in the development of relations between our two countries and will contribute to the development of Russian non-energy export”, – announced the Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, Denis Manturov.
“The delivery of the first batch of serial products is the result of extensive preparatory work. We have developed the technical documentation taking into account the peculiarities of the “European” tracks, built two prototype cars and obtained the customer’s approval and carried out a certification campaign on the territories of Russia and Hungary. Despite the complicated epidemiological situation, we developed the international transport logistics. Such projects have a great multiplicative potential and allow to develop cooperative production on the local and international market”, – adds Kirill Lipa, the Managing Director of Transmashholding.
TMH has produced 5 different car models for the Egyptian National Railways. The products meet the regulations in the field of passenger transport safety and ensure a high level of comfort. The operating life of the cars in continental or coastal climate conditions is 40 years.
