Transmashholding (TMH, headed by Andrey Bokarev) won the international Good Design award in the field of industrial and graphic design for the second year in a row. In 2021, the prize was awarded to the design concept of the TEM23 locomotive.

Since the submission of the competition entry, the TEM23 design concept has evolved into a full-fledged model. As a reminder, the design concept, which is an integral part of the Transmashholding brand DNA, already won the Good Design Award in 2020.

The design of the TEM23 was conceived in partnership with the National Centre for Industrial Design and Innovation “2050.LAB”. The result is an efficient, economical and intelligent locomotive, spearheading a new generation.

The TEM23 is first and foremost the aesthetics of functionality,” states Evgeny Maslov, Transmashholding’s chief designer. – Thanks to the modular configuration and platform solutions, this locomotive can be transformed according to various scenarios. We anticipate the expectations of the users – we create an understandable and efficient environment around them in which they can work comfortably. These values are the basis of our DNA, which is why in the design of TEM23 we have tried to emphasise quality and the well thought-out, non-random nature of every detail. This is the new face of the Russian engineering industry.”

The TEM23 locomotive is built on a modular basis, facilitating maintenance and reducing downtime. The TEM23 can also be equipped with a remote control system for the locomotive.

Good Design is one of the world’s leading industrial and graphic design competitions, established in 1950. It is organised by the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design and the European Centre for Architecture, Art, Design and Urban Studies.

In 2021 the organisers examined over 1100 design projects from 55 countries. The TEM23 concept was declared one of the best in the “Transport” category, alongside major brands such as Ferrari, Hyundai and Mitsubishi.
